Child's First Dental Visit

A child's first visit can influence his or her attitude towards dental and oral care into adulthood. We strive to make the first visit a pleasant experience from the decorated waiting room to the friendly and warm welcome of the staff and doctors. Most first visits with our Pediatric Specialists Dr. Annuzzi or Dr. Creato consist of a routine exam, a cleaning, fluoride treatment, and x-rays only when necessary. We carefully examine the development of their mouth including: crowding, appearance of calcium deposits, abnormality in the number of teeth, baby bottle tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ, and signs of prolonged problems such as thumb-sucking and teething. We explain how a healthy diet helps to maintain and improve oral health and we demonstrate the correct way to brush teeth. Parents are welcome to accompany their children to the treatment room if they choose.

Our office follows the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's guidelines which recommends that your child be seen by one year of age. Children that begin dental care early tend to have lower decay rates because the child is less fearful and more cooperative, the parents are provided additional dental education, and early intervention can be accomplished.
